About Reading to Dogs:

Reading to Dogs is designed to create a stress free, relaxed environment where a reluctant reader can enjoy a book without judgement, interruption or social pressure.  

The ability to read opens the door to a world of possibilities, however for a lot of children and young people, especially post-covid, school refusal and school reluctance is a real issue and has a lasting impact on educational attainment and success. Reading to trained dogs is proven to be highly beneficial for children with communication, confidence, trauma and anxiety issues. The introduction of alternative interventions helps to alleviate the blocks to learning without the child ever being aware. 

The dynamic created by the dog along with their volunteer helps to reduce stress levels for the child and through regular sessions, their vocabulary develops, their reading skills improve, and their confidence grows.
